Serra de Monchique

The tour begins at the highest point of the Algarve, in Foia, which offers a good view of the coastline. From there we can see interesting species of birds, such as the rock bunting, the blue rock thrush or the Dartford warbler. Throughout the day we will explore various types of habitats, namely brush areas, coniferous areas and cork-wood areas, which allows us to observe a diverse range of perching birds. At the Monchique hot springs, for instance, many birds drink from a brook far off from the centre of town. A visit to a small wetland at the end of the day will allow us to watch different types of birds, such as the kestrel, the buzzard or Bonelli’s eagle.
